Top tips for your first few weeks

Below are some top tips offered by the Academic Skills team.  

We hope these help you to get off to a flying start!  

 

1. Find the library!  
2. Familiarise yourself with our online resources
3. Get a system ready for your studies: buy files for paperwork and set up folders on your computer.  Invest in a diary, or use a calendar on your phone or computer, to make sure you don't miss any classes, appointments or deadlines.
4. Check out our advice on digital wellbeing so that you can make the most of all of the resources and tools available to you.  
5. Log onto Blackboard and familiarise yourself with your module handbooks.
6. At university, you won't be provided with all of the information.  Handouts and slides are just the beginning: take a look at our advice on note taking and lecture preparation
7. Find your reading lists: our guide to Reading Lists Online provides advice to help you with this.  
8. Bookmark the RefZone pages that will tell you everything you need to know about referencing.
