Refurbishment works taking place in The Thompson Library, Stoke - Dec 2019 to Jan 2020: Home

Refurbishment Information

Some refurbishment and moves are taking place in Thompson Library in December / January.  This page will be updated as work progresses to keep you up to date with the latest changes.

New Library Counter Location

The Library Counter has moved to a new location on the ground floor of the Library.  This is located on the left as you come down the stairs into the Library.

You will also find the following in that area:

  • The Reservation Collection shelf
  • Self-issue machine and book return bins
  • Printer

The Academic Skills team is offering a Triage/Drop-in service next to the counter Monday/Friday between 11am and 3pm.  Come along for a quick enquiry and to help you get started with finding and using Library resources.

The Skills Space

The Skills Space has moved to a new location on the first floor  in the old Quiet Study area.

If you have an appointment with an Academic Skills Tutor, and are not sure where this is, please go to the Library Counter and you will be directed to the new space by the Library counter staff.

If a member of the Academic Skills team in on duty in the Triage/Drop-in area and are free, then they can also show you to the new room.

Other changes

Room B030 (the old Journal Room) is now a Quiet Study area.  The Well-being collection is also in this area.

Monday 16 December 2019 to Mid-January 2020
The area vacated by the library reception will be refurbished.

Please note the following new stock locations

  • Journals (including current journal stands) and DVDs have been moved to the ‘Main Collection’ area (towards rear of ground floor).
  • The ‘Core’ collection on the ground floor has been re-organised meaning some books will be in slightly different locations – please ask a member of the Library Team if you need assistance.
