The Student Connect team offer help and support throughout the day, online and in person, whilst maintaining and servicing your university library spaces - with visibility at various locations. If you need help with library or general university queries, please approach one of our staff. All Student Connect staff wear distinctive red tops with the 'Here to Help' logo!

Academic skills support

The Academic Skills team can help you develop techniques to learn effectively, produce your assignments and improve your work to reach your full potential. Academic Skills are essential for success at university and our guides, workshops and one-to-one support are designed to help you become an efficient, independent learner. The team has the expertise to make a positive difference to your learning. 

We offer:

  • Online guides and resources for specific subject areas or academic skills topics
  • Taught workshops
  • One-to-one appointments online, by email or in person by arrangement 

The team can help you with the following areas: 

Study skills: academic writing, effective reading, planning your work, numeracy and time management.

Research and library skills: locating resources - books, eBooks, eJournals, online databases, finding quality webpages and referencing.

Digital capabilities: using Microsoft Office effectively, creating long documents in Word, using PowerPoint for presentations or academic posters, using Qualtrics survey software.

The Academic Skills team can help you find the right online resources to complete your studies. Whatever you need to succeed, whether you need to find things on your reading list, information on how to reference or advice on how to upgrade your writing skills, the Academic Skills team can help you.

Use our Academic study skills webpages to access our online guides. Sometimes getting a quick overview of how to approach something new can be helpful.

Online support: workshops

Throughout the academic year we will be running a programme of bookable online workshops on a range of topics likely to be of use to both new and returning students.

Please lookout for the booking details on our website. Sessions repeat across the programme so if you can’t make one date there will be others These will run at 11 am and 3pm Monday to Friday, with a few of the most popular sessions also running at 6pm.
