Welcome to the support page on accessing your device, while you might be accessing this page on a device already, there are multiple devices that will have their own similar ways to turn a device on. This page serves as a way to quickly gather some information on this topic.
If you are setting up a device this video is a great place to start:
Step 1: Locate the power button
The device you use will have a power button located on the device whether that be a Laptop, Desktop, Mobile or other digital device. Typically these will be a single button located with a power icon symbol and will often need to be pressed to turn on.
Desktop Computer:
The power button on a desktop will usually be located on the top or front of the computer tower.
Laptops
The power button on a laptop will usually be located upon lifting the screen up from the keyboard and will be located on the top row of keys.
Mobile Devices:
On a mobile device the button will be located on one of the sides of the device and is typically a bumper. On most devices there will be three bumpers – One that is stand alone for the power and the other two located together for the volume controls.
Other devices:
Depending on the device you are accessing you may need to refer to the user manual as power buttons may be located in different locations then indicated above.
Step 2: Power Supply
Certain devices will require a constant connection to a power supply where other devices might only require a charge to ensure that it has enough power to keep the working.
Desktops
Desktops will always be required to be plugged into a power outlet as they require a constant connection to an energy source. Be sure to check that your computer devices is plugged into a power outlet and that the power outlet is turned on at the wall. The desktop will also have an additional power switch to turn on towards the back of the computer tower that will need to be turned on.
Laptops and mobile devices
Laptops and mobile devices can be used both plugged in and unplugged as they contain a battery that enables them to store an electrical charge enabling the device to be used for an extended period of time.
Be sure to charge your device before use as if you have not used a device for an extended period of time the device might have naturally lost it’s charge.
Tip: Batteries’ have a battery life which means that the newer a battery is the healthier it is leading to a longer charge. A battery life will decrease in it’s life cycle but it can be damaged by over charging it too. When your battery reaches 100% be sure to unplug it!
Step 3: Press the power button
When your device is connected to a power outlet or is charged you can press the power button that you have located on your device. You might need to press and hold the button depending on the device.
Step 4: Wait for the device to start up
The device will start to power up, a good indication of it working is that the screen/keyboard will light up when it is turning on. For Computers and Laptops you will hear their fans turning on and for mobile devices you will hear an audible beep or vibration buzz when successfully turned on.
Step 4.5: Computer Monitors
If you are using a desktop computer, you will need to ensure that your monitor is turned on. This will mean the above steps again but for your monitor. When pressing the monitor’s power button you should see a visible light that appears on the screen indicating that it has power. Be sure that you have the correct cable plugged into the computer tower! (please refer to your user manual)
Tip: Computer monitors can burn out! It is good practice for your device and the environment to turn off your devices after use.
