About appointment locations

When you book an appointment with one of the Academic Skills Tutors you can choose a face-to-face appointment, telephone, email or online (Skype).  The locations displayed will vary depending on who you select.

The information below may help you to decide which is the best option for any given situation:

Location Best for What to do
Email
  • Instant feedback not essential
  • Answer to a specific question
  • Provide links to our resources
  • Comments/feedback on a section of work
  • Follow up to face to face appointment
  • Select email option from the drop-down list (this makes sure that the Tutor has the time required to answer your query)
  • Fill in the information about your course of study
  • Attach any documentation /assignment
Telephone
  • Instant feedback available
  • In time answer to a specific question
  • Verbal discussion
  • Follow up to a face to face appointment
  • Don’t need to share a document or view webpages
  • Select Skype/Telephone option from the drop-down list (this makes sure that the Tutor has the time required to answer your query)
  • Select Telephone option on the form
  • Make sure you leave a contact telephone number which we can call you on at the time of the appointment
  • Fill in the information about your course of study
  • Attach any documentation /assignment
Online (Skype)
  • Instant feedback available
  • Both parties need access to a document
  • Demonstration of research skills 
  • View online resources
  • Support with using library systems or standard software
  • Personalised video call with option of visuals alongside sound
  • Option to record the conversation/actions/demonstrations for future use
  • Select Skype/Telephone option from the drop-down list (this makes sure that the Tutor has the time required to answer your query)
  • Select Skype option on the booking form
  • Fill in the information about your course of study
  • Attach any documentation /assignment
  • Before the scheduled appointment please check the technical preparation guidance to ensure that your device is set up correctly.
  • You will receive an email from the selected Tutor confirming the appointment together with a weblink
  • At the scheduled time, open the email and click on the link to join the conversation
