The Cite it! bookmarklet tool is useful if you are searching on the internet and see a resource you would like to add to your favourites or directly into a reading list (for example, a YouTube video).

The tool embeds into the bookmarks bar of your web browser allowing for quick and easy access. Clicking on the Cite it! button while viewing a web page prompts the tool to harvest the data from that page, creating a resource link. The tool also checks resources against the Library's holdings (for example, journal articles) and confirms if the library already has access to the resource - this enables better linking and support from the library.

Cite it! tool. Found by opening the settings menu in Reading Lists Online.

Further information:

To make a new book request, you will need to fill in details about the resource on a blank form. This is the same process for new editions of existing titles. The responsibility to request new editions remain with academics who have full understanding of learning requirements - so checking your reading list each year is important.

Library services will prioritise the acquisition of the first three "Essential" items on module reading lists each year. Items tagged recommended or background may also be purchased later subject to costs and Library budgets.

As an absolute minimum, the details needed to purchase a new resource are:

  • Author
  • Title
  • Edition
  • Publisher
  • ISBN

While completing the form, you can also add the title to the desired section of your reading list (for example, Week 1). Remember to click 'Add' or 'Add and close' at the bottom of the form when you have finished.

Click on the +Add button, select Manual entry, select Book from the Type options.

Each new item now needs to be tagged.  The options are:

  • Essential
  • Recommended
  • Background
  • Purchase Request

To finish the process, click My list is ready. This will then send the details to Library staff to initiate a purchase.

PLEASE NOTE THE LIBRARY CANNOT SEE NEW RESOURCE PURCHASE REQUESTS UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN TAGGED CORRECTLY. ITEMS NOT TAGGED WILL NOT BE ORDERED AND COULD RESULT IN RESOURCES NOT BEING AVAILABLE  FOR START OF TERM

University of Staffordshire Library and Learning Services will prioritise the acquisition of the first three essential items on reading lists. Further "Essential", "Recommended" and "Background" items may be purchased subject to budget.

The Library has a digital-first approach to purchasing. However, not all books are available for libraries to buy as e-books. Some reasons may prevent the library from ordering a digital copy include:

  • Some titles don't exist as e-books.
  • Some e-books are only available for individual purchase (the Library has to follow an institutional purchase model).
  • Some titles are not available to purchase in the UK.
  • Some titles are too expensive or the license is too restrictive.

Book Ordering Formula for Essential items:

  • Multiple user e-book licence (where available and costs allow).
  • 1 print book per 30 students (up to a maximum of 5 copies).
  • Maximum of 3 purchases per module.

Further information:

To make a new article request, you will need to fill in the details you know about the resource on a blank form (see above for instructions on using the blank form option). As a minimum, the details needed to purchase a new resource are:

  • Author
  • Article title
  • Journal title
  • Volume
  • Year of publication
  • Page range

While completing the form, you can also add the title to the desired section of your reading list (for example, week 1). Remember to click Add or Add and close at the bottom of the form when you have finished.

Click on the +Add button, select Manual entry, select Article from the Type field.

Each new item now needs to be tagged. The options are:

  • Essential
  • Recommended
  • Background
  • Purchase Request

To finish the process, click My list is ready. This will then send the details to Library staff to initiate a purchase. Items will be fulfilled either by copyright fee paid via The British Library or (if applicable) purchasing the book and uploading the chapter via the DCS link; this will be determined by the costs for each option.

Some items that are supplied by the library in print only can have sections digitised, both for convenience and to allow more students to access the resource at the same time.

First, add the item to your reading list, following the instructions above to add new items to your reading list.

When you have found the title, you will see information from the CLA about the resource; the scanning section will give you a good indication if scanning for digitisation is allowed.

Select CLA to see permissions. The fields/links in this window appear in the following order: Check box, drag and move, cover image, Hide from students, Note for students, Due date, Add tag, Request digitisation, CLA.

Once you have checked the CLA information, select the Request digitisation button and complete the page range and chapter information as required and click Send.

Ask the Library for a digital copy screen. The fields/links appear in the following order: Course code, CLA, chapters, Pages from, pages to, + Page range, Number of participants, Note, + Note, Cancel, Send.

Once approved, the link will be added to the reading list from the DCS.
