Hello and welcome to the library subject support page for our Partner Colleges and Institutions.

Are you a student from one of our UK colleges or institutions? We also have a support page for International Partner Colleges and Institutions.

Take a little time out to visit each tab. These will help explain how to use library resources so that you can find information for your assignment - and get ahead! Please look at the Digital Induction to see how our resources work!

If your college uses a Microsoft Login. Please follow these instructions when accessing our resources.

You can see our Guides and Podcasts tab on the left-hand side of the page. This area contains instructions on how to access online resources. We suggest that you access your Subject Resource Page and have a look at the guides and support listed on it.

We have put together a list of all of the online resources which UK Partner College students can access and also for International Partner Colleges and Institutions. There are a few of our resources which are not available to Partner Colleges due to publishers' or licensing restrictions.

We also have Academic Librarian & Skills Tutors that can help you with academic writing, time management, assignment structure and a lot more.  For more information please visit Academic Study Skills.

We are always happy to see students for a one to one. To make an appointment (typically lasting between 30 minutes and 1 hour) please use our online booking system.  If you have any other queries please email us at academicskills@staffs.ac.uk

Good luck with your studies!

Digital Skills for Students

All students are expected to use a range of IT packages as part of their studies including MS Office. They also need to be aware of good practice in saving and backing up work to avoid problems at key times such as assignment deadlines.

The best place to start is to make your students aware of the Jisc Discovery tool. This online tool allows students to self-assess their digital skills to identify strengths and weaknesses when it comes to digital capabilities, and to help develop and enhance their digital literacy.

There is also a site dedicated to Student Digital Skills with useful guides and videos.

Students may also be interested in attending some of the online workshops that the Library runs.  These include a session on using Microsoft Word to create long documents/dissertations, introducing students to more advanced features in Word.

We may also be able to offer online workshops within the curriculum on long documents in Word.  Other areas where we have provided support and training include Qualtrics, our online survey tool, and creating posters in PowerPoint.  Contact academicskills@staffs.ac.uk if you would like to discuss this.
