How to install Blender
Blender is an open source and free to use for everyone, when installing Blender it is important to understand the version you are running as different versions will have various changes and features.
Version Updates
Understanding the version you are running will enable you to locate tutorials and resources for that version.
The version you have will be seen in either two locations; the first is located on the splash screen when first launching the app and is represented by numbers that are visible in the top right of that screen.

Alternatively, if the splash screen has been closed or does not open when the app is launched, the version number will always appear in the bottom right of the screen.

Why does Blender not automatically update?
When updates release for Blender, there is a possibility that a feature might break what you have already created on the program. To avoid this Blender has opted to allow users to update at their own discretion. This does not mean it will break a project if you do choose to upgrade, but there is a possibility. Be aware of the patch notes before updating in case there is anything that might cause your project to break.
For users who would like the Blender to automatically update and are aware of their projects potentially breaking. They can install either the Microsoft Store or Steam versions of Blender which will automatically update when a new version is released.
To update Blender manually, the latest version can be installed on Blender's website, the previous version can be uninstalled once completed.
