Databases are one of the best types of resource to get familiar with.

We use the term ‘database’ to describe a searchable collection of online resources which contain items such as journal articles, books, and images. Using the databases recommended for your subject will help you find reliable information from trusted sources.

Finding Policing Journals & Articles

Articles can be found either by entering a key phrase in the Library Search and using the left hand pane to select Content Type = Journal Articles OR by searching the professional journals listed below.

Most articles contained in journals we subscribe to are available electronically but we do have a small reference only collection of printed journals. 

 

The Police Journal : theory, practice and principles - a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research studies and articles on good practice or practice evaluation, to reflect the constantly changing landscape in which police personnel around the World operate.  NEW FOR 2021

 

 

Police Professional  - a monthly printed and online journal for UK law enforcement.  From 2012 to present in Individual Staffordshire University journals.  To register: go to Log in and fill out your details.  You MUST enter your University email address where is asks for "Police email"

 

 

 

Policing - The Division of Policing seeks to advance theory, knowledge and practice in policing through rigorous research and evaluation.  It is committed to advancing the science of policing, testing innovation in the field, and promoting excellence in practice through translational activities. 

 
 

 

 

Police Practice and Research - Publishes articles on developments in policing, public order, state of safety, community policing, country- or region-specific police organization and more. 

 

 

 

 

Police Quarterly - peer-reviewed and published quarterly, is a scholarly journal that publishes empirical studies on issues related to policing

 

 

International Journal of Police Science and Management - a peer-reviewed journal whose principal objective is to facilitate international exchange, stimulate debate and to encourage closer bonds between academic research into the criminal justice system and the practicalities of its day-to-day management of criminal justice organisations including, but not necessarily confined to, the police.

Access to other university libraries

Staffordshire University is a member of SCONUL Access, a scheme that covers most of the academic libraries in the UK and Ireland.  

Membership is free and provides visitor access and borrowing rights to staff, postgraduates, distance learners and placement students – full-time undergraduates can apply for reference access.
