What is SCONUL Access?

Staffordshire University is a member of the SCONUL Access Scheme.

SCONUL Access membership allows you to use the libraries of other UK Universities who participate in the scheme.

Membership is free and provides visitor access and borrowing rights to staff, postgraduates, distance learners and placement students.

Full-time undergraduates can apply for reference access through the scheme.

Information for Staffordshire University Students and Staff

To use the SCONUL Access Scheme, you must first apply to become a SCONUL member. To make an application visit the SCONUL Access website.

Your SCONUL application must be accepted before you can visit other institutions’ libraries.

Your application with be processed by the Student Connect team at Staffordshire University.  if you have any questions please send an email to studentconnect@staffs.ac.uk 

To be eligible, you must be "in good standing" with Staffordshire University Library, which means you will have no overdue loans or unpaid charges. 

Please plan your visits to other libraries carefully and check the website of the library you want to visit beforehand, as some libraries may apply their own restrictions, including periods of the year when SCONUL Access members cannot visit. 

You will be able to see a full list of participating institutions when you apply for membership.

Information for visitors from other UK Universities

Bands A, B, C and R can apply to join our library for access to our facilities and for Bands A, B and C borrowing rights as stipulated. Band R is reference access only.

You will need to have

  • Received your SCONUL approval
  • Submitted a SCONUL Library Card request form including digital photo to Student Connect for your Library and Building Access card to be printed.  This must be emailed to us at studentconnect@staffs.ac.uk before arrival.
  • A form of photo ID (e.g. passport or driving licence) to be able to collect your library ID on arrival, plus your home institution ID.
