We have a number of e-book providers, so as to cover the broad spectrum of titles required for the teaching of our courses. The list of our providers can be found on our Online Database A-Z page and you can search for books via our Library Search (Primo) on our library resources page. To access the book you will need your university username and password.  Although the provider platforms may look different they have similar features, and all will have embedded help pages. For online reading the platforms work on all browsers but we recommend that you keep your browsers up -to-date

Each provider uses a number of licensing models, some will be on an unlimited basis, so that all students on a given module could look up and read the required material at once. Some titles are restricted to 1 or 3 students at the same time where, access is time limited in a similar way to borrowing a physical text from the library. If the title times out, it can simply be re-borrowed, provided there is no queue ahead of you. Where possible we strive to get the unlimited licenses as a priority.

Offline reading

eBook central (Proquest) and VLEBooks (Browns) - our main suppliers

  • allow download for offline viewing download time limits vary
  • no limit on the amount of times you can download
  • you can download to desktop and mobile devices.
  • they require you to download Adobe Digital Editions eBook viewer app and will be prompted to install when downloading the title

Most of our providers allow printing, either directly from their online platform, or from a downloaded copy. Most will limit how much can be printed this is because of copyright restrictions.  You can also download the amount you have selected to print in a PDF document instead of printing.
